The once midnight sky slowly turns to dawn.
Her clock shows 5:28 A.M., Saturday.
She wonders if it's really been three hours
since she first layed down.
Looking out her window, she sees it's still
dark outside.
Not for long.
Daylight will creep up soon enough.
The dreaded 8:30 wake-up will come too early.
She cringes just thinking about that annoying
sound.
That loud, sharp beeping that she's somehow
learned to sleep through.
As the star-speckled blackness wanders into
a cloudy blue,
She decides she might as well stay awake.
Not that she seems to have a choice.
The tossing and turning is driving her crazy.
She steps out of bed and grabs some paper and
a pen from her folder,
Makes herself comfortable,
And begins to write.
Writing about anything . . . everything.
The ink flows across the blank white
sheet.
Her mind--a bottomless treasure chest--
Holds all her secrets, hopes, fears, and
memories.
The ones nobody thinks to ask about.
Words and sentences that were once trapped
inside her head
Now stand out for all to see.
Thoughts of life, love, happiness and sorrow
Cover page after endless page when she is
done.
The original blank sheets now hold more
meaning than before.
She places everything back inside her folder
and lays down once again.
The sky is much lighter than the last time
she looked.
She peeks at her clock--7:25 A.M.
It's going to be a long day.
As she turns out the light
She thinks about her plans for the evening,
And decides at least an hour of rest would do
her good.
Her eyelids eventually give in to lack of sleep.
While slipping into Dreamland,
A sense of peace fills up a small portion of
her soul . . .
. . . and she smiles.
